Our self catering gites in Riquewihr are wonderful places to stay in Winter. In Le Colombier apartment (up to 4-5 persons), a unique electrical tile stove sits in the Alsatian dining room (stub). In the lounge you will have a pellet fireplace. During the Christmas markets period (end of November to January), all our 3 romantic apartments are decorated with a beautiful Christmas decoration.

CHRISTMAS celebrations and Christmas markets in ALSACE and RIQUEWIHR
The Christmas markets and celebrations in Alsace start every year with the first Sunday of Advent.
Usually, festivities start on the last weekend of November. This Christmas markets atmosphere will last until beginning of January. By booking one of our charming apartments in Riquewihr you will be ideally located to discover the Christmas markets all over Alsace.

From Riquewihr you are only minutes away from the beautiful Christmas markets of the city of Colmar. The nearby little towns of Kaysersberg and Ribeauvillé are 5 minutes away and organise every year beautiful Christmas markets.

Strasbourg and Obernai are well known for their Christmas markets and are less than 1 hour by car. But to visit and enjoy all these Christmas markets you do not even need to drive: in Riquewihr you can catch a bus (every hour) for an easy ride to Ribeauvillé, Kaysersberg and Colmar. The bus stops at Colmar train station where you will find many trains for Strasbourg (approx half an hour trip) and even Basel in Switzerland. All Christmas markets are within walking distance from the train or bus stations. Why bother with driving and finding parking for the car? Use our (efficient) public transport means and taste as much Glühwein (warm, sweet and spicy wine prepared in Winter) as you like! 

And of course in Riquewihr itself you will be able to taste and enjoy that very specific fairy tale atmosphere!

Winter is the season of traditional Alsace. Mid November, January and February offer plenty of discoveries for those who know how to look and approach closer. Riquewihr is your base for exploring the vineyard and the mountains of Vosges and Alsace!
In the aftermath of the Epiphany, the Feast of the Magi, 6 January, when the celebrations of Christmas fade in our memories, when the lanterns have been removed and the new year has begun its march towards Easter, then another Alsace unfolds. Some find it more authentic, far from the tumult of the crowds of the beautiful days.

In Winter, the winemaker has got more time for you to let you taste the wonderful wines of his cellar and introduce you to the mysteries of the wine from Alsace. The restaurants, inns and taverns that are open in winter are those frequented by Alsatians themselves, a guarantee of quality and authenticity. In winter, the treasures of medieval architecture, the picturesque streets of Riquewihr, the crown jewels of the museums in Colmar belong to those who know how to choose a different approach for their stay in Alsace.
And even if the snow is not present every year in Riquewihr, those who want to take a walk in snowshoes or cross-country skiing should find their happiness with a day out a little higher in the Vosges, a half an hour's drive barely (station du Lac Blanc). Finally, do not be worried by any wintry road conditions: of course caution on the road is always up, but in Alsace and in the Vosges, snow is not an unknown phenomenon and there is appropriate equipment available (and know how) to quickly clean the roads in case of snowfall ...
